Happy Birthday to Jane!

Happy girl

Jane is becoming so alert! She loves to look at us and just smile and laugh and try to talk. She has also started engaging more with her toys that dangle over her bouncy seat. Sometimes she'll be lying there and out of the blue she just starts laughing at her little cow toy.

Jane snores

Jane makes the cutest noises when she sleeps. I call it snoring, but my cousin, Molly, calls it purring, which is a much nicer way of saying it. We decided it's more accurate, too, since the noise is more vocal than just air.

Jane laughs and talks

Here is a fun video of Jane smiling, laughing and talking. It has been so wonderful to have her responding to and recognizing us, especially with such happy sounds and expressions! Notice the "g" sound she makes at one point... her first consonant!

Meet Jane

Well, Jane has been delighting us for eight weeks now, so you can imagine that we have a zillion pictures, but I'll try to pick one for this post.

Jane Elizabeth Cowan was born on December 26, 2009 at 7:01 pm at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN. She was 6lb 4oz and 19 in. She has amazed us daily. What a joy!

Beginnings

Trying to figure this out... here is my first attempt at posting a picture...

I thought I should start where "The Cowan Fam" began. Richard and I met at UVA in the spring of '99. He was a second year; I was a first year. Three years later we were married, and seven years after that our family grew from two to three. Thanks, Mr. Cavalier.

I just started a blog

Hey... this is weird. I have no idea who I'm talking to. Who's reading this? This is my first attempt at doing one of those "social networking" thingys. I don't even have a Facebook page or whatever you call it. Although, that may come soon now that I've caved on the whole blogging idea.
Anyway, I decided to start a blog as a way to share pictures of our eight-week old daughter, Jane. She's just the cutest. I don't know if I'll write much, since I prefer to just look at pictures when I go to other people's blogs (no offense). But who knows... we'll see how it goes!
